The 70 year-old became volently ill during his return flight to the United Kingdom from Santiago, Chile. His doctors admitted him to hospital and underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection. He was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22 after spending two nights in intensivecare.
"I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well." he said.
Sir Elton John is expected to return to a stage in Twickenham, England, on June 3.
